MILLWOOD, N.Y. -- Installation of a new community-events sign was put on hold after a buried oil tank was discovered on the A&P property over a month ago, but the town is now ready to try again.
"They excavated and they found an old abandoned oil tank underneath, and that's dating back who knows how many years," said Millwood Task Force member Michael Stern. "They had to make sure there was no pollution."
Town Supervisor Susan Carpenter said the sign is scheduled to go up within the week, but it can only be installed by the sign company.
"They’re pushing the sign company to put it up as quickly as they can," Carpenter said.
The community-events sign will have three sliding slots available for the promotion of events or organizations. Town Administrator Penny Paderewski previously said she was so impressed with the design, that it may be duplicated for use in Chappaqua's triangle near Route 120.
