NEW CASTLE, N.Y. – If you can’t attend a New Castle Town Board meeting but still want to make your voice heard, you can do so by asking questions using a new chat function on the New Castle Community Media Center’s live stream online.

The interactive tool will debut during the meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 7:45 p.m. When the live stream begins, viewers can click on the Town Board meeting pane to watch the meeting and chat. First-time users must register, but can only do so once the meeting starts streaming.

“Our goal is to keep residents informed and involved through the use of technology,” according to a statement on the New Castle website. “We want an active community where people want to participate in government.”

New Town Supervisor Rob Greenstein said the board reserves the right to answer whatever questions it wants.

"But the fact is the more interaction the better," he said.

Before meetings, residents may also email their questions to ask@mynewcastle.org, which will be answered during the supervisor’s report, typically held at the beginning of meetings.

The questions received through the new chat function will be answered toward the end of the meeting. Residents should specify whether or not they want their names read with their question.

“We want to be accessible, and to benefit from the wisdom of our most important resource, our residents,” according to the statement. “The extra convenience of participating through Livestream will provide residents with an opportunity to share opinions and engage directly with the Town Board.”

Videos will be replayed on the Video on Demand feature on the New Castle Community Media Center site. Additionally, online viewers who tune in late can now rewind the meeting right away, according to the town website.

The town also announced it plans to enable residents to receive meeting agendas and minutes by email.
