CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – For those who get to downtown Chappaqua on a bicycle, motorcycle or scooter, you might soon have a designated place to leave your vehicle upon arriving. New Castle Town Clerk Jill Shapiro and town officials are currently weighing their options in regards to such parking.
Shapiro, who the New Castle Town Board jokingly dubbed “the parking czar,” brought the ideas before board members in Tuesday night’s work session. Her first suggestion would put a brand new bike rack on top of fresh gravel just south of the Route 120 bridge, north of the train station.
“It would hold about 10 bikes,” she said.
As for scooters and motorcycles, Shapiro and the board looked over a map and pointed out three possibilities: one south of the train station, one north to the Shell gas station and another area in the northern area of the train station parking lot.
Shapiro said the new spots would most likely hold four to six vehicles but that parking spots for scooters and motorcycles are smaller than those for cars.
Though planning for the additional parking is in the preliminary stages, both board members and Shapiro alike described the project as, "something we would like to get done."
