WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Sandra Sciortino is seeking election to the New York State Supreme Court in the 9th Judicial District.
Sciortino is currently a practicing attorney. She is one of seven candidates vying for three open seats in the 9th Judicial District, which consists of Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange and Dutchess counties.
The Daily Voice asked Sciortino to fill out a questionnaire with some basic information. Answers were limited to 150 words. Below are her answers.

Family: My husband, Joseph, and I have two daughters. Cara and her husband, Winston, are parents to John. Beth and her fiancée, Kevin, will be married in the spring.
What town do you live in: Washingtonville, Orange County.
How long have you lived there: 32 years.
Party affiliation and ballot lines held: Democrat running on the Democratic line.
Are you an incumbent: No.
Other elected positions held or sought: I served on the Washingtonville Central School District School board for 12 years, two of the years as president.
Civic organizations you belong to: Past president of Women’s Bar Association of Orange and Sullivan Counties and Orange County Bar Association; member of Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York and New York State Bar Association.
Educational background: Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Oswego; Master of Science from Lehman College; Juris Doctorate from Pace Law School (cum laude; Law Review).
What are the three biggest issues that concern you?
Delay of cases within the court system often results in inconsistency in decisions, inequity and dissatisfaction.
How would you address these issues?
I would assure timeliness in taking the bench and in reaching decisions. Cases requiring an expeditious result would be given priority.
What qualifies you to be a state Supreme Court justice?
Through my varied litigation experience and commitment to my profession, I understand the needs and expectations of people as well as the workings of the court system.
Why should people vote for you?
My 26 years as a practicing attorney gave me insight into the impact the process has on individuals. Use of this knowledge will ensure fair, effective and courteous treatment.
