Kirsten Gillibrand Wins
Re-Election To U.S. Senate Seat

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand easily won re-election to the U.S. Senate.  

With 61 percent of districts reporting, she had 70 percent of the vote at midnight. Gillibrand beat Republican challenger Wendy Long, Green Party candidate Colia Clark, Libertarian Chris Edes, and the Common Sense Party's John Mangelli.

Gillibrand was appointed to the Senate in 2009 to replace Hillary Clinton and ran in 2010 to fill out the remainder of Clinton's term. This will be Gillibrand's first full term as Senator.  She previously worked as an attorney in upstate New York, and as Special Counsel to Andrew Cuomo during the Clinton Administration.

Long is an attorney who once served as law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
