NEW CASTLE, N.Y. -- County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz has reaffirmed his previous endorsement of the New Castle Democratic slate despite being included in an unauthorized mailing by Team New Castle.
Kaplowitz stated that he had not provided permission for his name and photograph to be included in the mailing that was created and paid for by Team New Castle.
“As a life-long Democrat and County Legislator representing the Town of New Castle, I am proud to be running alongside Penny (Paderewski), John (Buckley), Mike (Wolfensohn) and Noah (Sorkin),” Kaplowitz said in a statement.
Paderewski is running for town supervisor, Buckley and Wolfensohn for Town Board member and Sorkin for town justice.
“For many years," Kaplowitz said in the statement. "I have had the privilege of working with the New Castle town government and, together, we have found solutions to many significant matters facing the Town. I look forward to continuing to partner with them on such key issues as the environment, land use, tax and finance, sewers, and quality of life in this wonderful town.”
The New Castle Democratic Committee was swift in its response to the mailing in question.
“Given that their entire platform is based on Transparency in Government, inclusion and communication, this so called “clever tactic” clearly demonstrates that they march to their own drum without consideration for rules or procedures and common decency,” Jerry Curran, co-chair of the New Castle Democratic Committee said in a statement. “I think this tactic gives voters tremendous insight into how this group operates and the subsequent legal bills that will ultimately be incurred by the New Castle taxpayers.”
