NEW CASTLE, N.Y. — A scammer has been calling New Castle residents and threatening to shut off their water if the caller wasn't immediately paid, the New Castle Police Department said Thursday.

A woman reported receiving a phone call that demanded instant payment or else her water was going to be shut off.

The Department sent out a press release reminding residents that the Water Department will never make threatening phone calls about a shut off, even if your account is delinquent.

The best course of action, police say, is to simply hang up on the caller.
