WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Senior citizens living throughout Westchester are being warned to be aware of an IRS phone scam that several area residents have reported.

The persons calling pretend to be tax officials seeking back money they say is owed, Village of Mamaroneck police said.

A Northern Westchester resident reported to Daily Voice on Sunday she received a call via cell phone claiming there was "legal action against you."

Residents are being reminded that the IRS would never call someone for information or to collect tax debts, nor would they deny someone the opportunity to question or appeal the amount owed.

Residents should not give out any information and immediately terminate the call.
