Police said they believe the burglar entered the house through a second-floor window, which may have been left open.

In a separate announcement, police said nine residential burglaries have occurred in town so far this year. Of those, seven involved places with either no alarm system or one that was not armed, with property taken from six. Two places had alarms that went off and nothing was removed.

"These numbers are not surprising to the police department," police said in a press release. "The numbers bear out advice we have always given to the public:  When leaving your residence, even for a short time, lock all doors and windows and set your alarm system.  If you do not have an alarm system, consider getting one. Please keep an eye out for suspicious activity in your neighborhood. No one knows what is out of place in your neighborhood better than you and your neighbors."
