Troopers said that Justin L. Campanello, 37, was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in addition to the DWI charge following their investigation into the two-car accident.

An investigation at the scene showed that the Campanello was traveling northbound on the Sprain Brook Parkway failing to maintain his designated lane when he rear-ended another vehicle, then exited the roadway and came to rest facing southbound.

Troopers also said the investigation revealed that Campanello was impaired by drugs at the time of the crash and was in possession of approximately four grams of heroin.

A State Police drug recognition expert evaluated Campanello and confirmed that he was impaired by drugs.
