Prieto was convicted of three murders in Virginia and California, and is linked by DNA and ballistics to six more. Attorneys for Prieto tried to delay the execution but a judge late Thursday denied the request, The Washington Post said.
Deidre Raver of Yorktown, sister of victim Rachael Raver, watched the execution, and said it ends a 26-year ordeal for her family. Prieto, 49, an El Salvadore native, was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m., The Washington Post reported.
