Infant Killed After Being Hit By Toyota Prius Taxicab In Hudson Valley

Original report: An infant was killed after being struck by a taxicab operated by a Monsey resident late Sunday afternoon in Monsey, Ramapo Police said.

Ramapo Police responded to Johanna Lane in Monsey at approximately 4:58 pm, Sunday for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Investigation on scene revealed that a 2015 Toyota Prius taxicab was being operated by a 41-year-old Monsey man, police said.

The driver had picked up a fare on Johanna Lane and was backing from the driveway when he struck the 14-month-old male child. The infant was a resident of the home from which the taxi fare was picked up, police said.

The infant was transported via Hatzolah Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital, with serious injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the vehicle involved remained on scene.

The Ramapo Police Accident Investigation Unit and Detective Division responded to scene to conduct an accident reconstruction and investigation.

At this time there are no tickets or charges issued to the driver pending further investigation.
