The evidence, according to Chappaqua Fire Chief Russell Maitland, involves compromised electrical wires located near wooden flooring.

“There’s a considerable amount of charring in that area,” he said.

A call came in at 2:36 p.m. for smoke in a home at 45 Kings Court, Maitland said.

Firefighters from Chappaqua and Mount Kisco responded to the fire on site, while Millwood's fire department offered stand-by aid by being stationed at the Chappaqua firehouse, Maitland added. Other mutual aid including ambulance corps from Chappaqua and Pleasantville, New Castle police and Westchester County's Cause and Origin Team.

The fire was found in the basement's ceiling and into the flooring of the house's fire floor, Maitland said. Although the fire was put up in 25 to 30 minutes, firefighters engaged in overhaul work as a precaution to make sure the fire had not spread, Maitland added.

Maitland said there was a “good amount of damage," but that it was in a small portion of the house. There was no visible damage outside, the chief added.
