Rafael 'Bob' Amelio, 92, Harrison Republican Party Chairman

HARRISON, N.Y. -- Rafael "Bob" Amelio, a longtime leader of the Harrison Republican Party, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92.

Amelio, a lifelong Harrison resident, was born on Oct. 25, 1925. He graduated Harrison High School and attended the Merchant Marine Academy before serving in World War II.

He was a developer and owner of Sha-Mar Construction and R & D Amelio Builders building over 200 homes and commercial buildings in Westchester. He was an active and dedicated member of the Harrison Community which he loved and served selflessly. 

Amelio was chairman of the Harrison Republican Town Committee and Chairman of the Harrison Republican Party for 54 consecutive years.

He was vice chairman of the Westchester County Republican Committee, former president and current member of Giovanni Caboto Club, a member of Harrison Knights of Columbus, secretary of the Brentwood Youth Club, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, former chairman of the Harrison chapter of Boys Town of Italy, a member of the American Legion and Harrison Chamber of Commerce.

He was married to Magdelena before she died in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Ann Carpiniello, his children, Sharon Bucchignano (John) and Marlane (George), his six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, along with Ann's children and grandchildren.

Amelio was predeceased by his siblings, John Amelio, Dan Amelio, Filomena Speck, Betty Giannotti, Marge Dreckman, Tosca Pick and Chiconda Sloat. 

Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home at 767 East Boston Post Road in Mamaroneck. A funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at 189 Fremont Street in Harrison.
