Lawrence Edward Breen, Mount Kisco Resident, Longtime Teacher

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Lawrence Edward Breen, 75, died at home in Mount Kisco on Wednesday, Jan. 28, from complications related to surgery.

Raised in Yonkers, Mr. Breen was the son of Catherine and John Breen. He attended Mount St. Michael High School in the Bronx, earned a bachelor's degree from SUNY Albany and a master's degree from New York University.

Mr. Breen had a meaningful 40-year career as an educator. He worked first as a teacher at Lincoln High School in Yonkers and then spent 37 years at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua. He cared immensely about the students and staff at Greeley and enjoyed maintaining close relationships with them throughout his life. Mr. Breen was particularly proud of co-founding the Chappaqua Summer Scholarship Program, which provides for an alternative summer learning experience at Horace Greeley for students from New York City.

A memorial gathering will be held in the Mount Kisco area on Saturday, March 14.
