Burton Solomon, 84, a longtime resident of Northern Westchester, died on Thursday in Mount Kisco, where he lived.

Born in 1933 in the Bronx, Solomon graduated from Evander Childs High School and from Fordham University in 1953.

He served in the United States Army stationed in Ft. Benning, GA and then attended Syracuse University earning a Master's in Radio and Television in 1957.

In 1959, he became a movie publicist in New York, working for Paramount Pictures and as the Director of Publicity of Universal Pictures. Later on, as a consultant, he helped to launch WFAN, and continued writing speeches and ghostwriting articles and books.

Solomon was a committed community volunteer who served as a member of the Riverside Democrats and worked on the campaigns of Congressman Bill Ryan and others. He was a volunteer at the Weekend Center in Mt. Kisco. In 1991, he was elected to the Bedford Central Schools Board of Education and later served on the advisory boards of BOCES and the Mount Kisco Library.

Burt was a published author and proudest of "The Baseball Timeline" (DK Publishing). He also published numerous short stories throughout his life.

At the age when most retire, he embarked on a new career as a Teaching Assistant in the Pleasantville Schools, a role that gave him great pleasure. In 2003, the students dedicated the high school yearbook to him.

He was a loyal friend to many and devoted father of Jonathan (Alison), Robert and Carrie (Nick Farmakis) and grandfather to Annabel and Thomas. He is also survived by his sister Betty Sribnik, a niece and nephew and many cousins.

A memorial for family and friends will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6 at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral home in Mount Kisco at 2 p.m. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Burt's name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the Humane Society.
