Allan L. Damon, 89, Teacher At Horace Greeley High School In Chappaqua

SOMERS, N.Y. - Allan Lincoln Damon of Somers died Sept. 22. He was 80.

Damon was born in Ware, Mass., in 1934. His family moved to Springfield, Mass., where he ultimately graduated from Classical High School in 1952. He earned his BA from Amherst College in 1956, followed by an MA from Columbia University in American History in 1958. He then taught American History for 33 years at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, retiring in June, 1991. Upon retirement, he completed his Ph. D. in American History from Columbia in 1994 and spent many years as a trustee and treasurer of the National Council for History Education. He was a researcher, writer, and contributing editor for American Heritage, and a contributing writer to The Dictionary of American Biography and to Scribner's Encyclopedia of American Lives.

Damon is survived by his wife, Claire; sons, Jeffrey (Heather) and Jonathan (Oswaldo); and two grandsons.

There will be a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights. A private burial service will be held in Connecticut.
