WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Seven assembly members and two Hudson River boating groups held a roundtable discussion focused on the safety of boaters in the Tappan Zee Bridge construction zone on Oct. 30.
The many barges and construction vessels in the Hudson River present significant challenges for boaters navigating around the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The Hudson River Boat & Yacht Club Association and the Hudson Valley Marine Trades association joined the assemblymembers in co-hosting the event.
Officials from Tappan Zee Constructors, the New York State Thruway Authority and the U.S. Coast Guard were also on hand to provide information and receive feedback from boaters.
“New York State must take all steps possible to minimize risk to boaters. We must create an ongoing dialogue where the State informs boaters well in advance of proposed obstructions and boaters provide insights gained from experiences in Hudson waters," said Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-Greenburgh, Mt. Pleasant) in a release.
"This forum is another step we can take to make sure our waterways are as safe as possible for those recreating and working on them," added Assemblywoman Sandy Galef (D-Ossining).
