Westchester Law Enforcement Boosting July 4 Security After Terror Warning

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- U.S. and local law enforcement officials will be boosting security in light of a warning from government agencies about the potential for terrorist attacks in the United States during the July 4 weekend.

New York State Counter Terrorism Zone 3 (Westchester and Putnam) will be assigning Operation Safeguard tasking during the Independence Day Holiday Weekend, it announced late Tuesday afternoon.

New York State Counter-Terrorism Zone 3 (Westchester and Putnam) will be assigning Operation Safeguard tasking during the Independence Day Holiday Weekend, it announced late Tuesday afternoon.  

This period will begin on Friday, July 3 and end on Sunday, July 5. 

Measures will consist of daily inspections and high-visibility patrols of houses of worship, transportation facilities, retail centers and any other site within a jurisdiction that has been given  special attention in the past (such as dams, bridges, reservoirs and airport etc.

The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and National Counterterrorism Center have issued a joint intelligence bulletin to law enforcement across the nation stating that the threat of a terrorist attack is at its highest level in years.

In characterizing the terror threat inside the U.S. as serious in an interview with CBS News, former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell cited the fact that ISIS has managed to align itself with a large number of Americans, mainly through social media, and that 50 people have been arrested in the U.S. in the last year for being radicalized by ISIS.
