Town Extends Housing Zone at Chappaqua Crossing

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Summit/Greenfield has been given an additional six months by the New Castle Town Board to return with site plans for housing at Chappaqua Crossing.

The Multifamily Planned Development Zone was initially approved by the board on April 11, 2011, with the stipulation that Summit/Greenfield would have to return within one year with site plans, which Town Supervisor Carpenter said the town did not receive. The zone allows for 111 housing units to be built on a 30.6 acre property.

"Given that a lot of things were in litigation, things have been held up," Carpenter said at a March 19 League of Women Voters event. "It took us a while to get them into the sewer district, now to turn around and say ‘aha, gotcha,’ I don’t think would probably be a particularly good move."

With the extension, Summit/Greenfield’s new deadline is Oct. 11, however, it would be able to re-apply for another six months. If the developer does not meet the deadline, the zoning would revert back to its previous state before last April’s decision.
