CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- The New Castle Town Board voted on Tuesday to approve the lease for the Chappaqua train station with a company controlled by Peter and Erin Chase, according to town records.

The lease was approved by a 4-1 margin, with Deputy Supervisor Lisa Katz voting no, according to video of the meeting.

At the meeting, Katz cited disagreement with the process that lead to the town making concessions for the Chases, naming electrical improvements and free rent involved.

Supervisor Rob Greenstein replied to Katz and defended the accommodations and mentioned a desire to have the train station filled.

“I just hope that they do right by our town," Katz replied.

Chases' company is called Chappaqua Station New York, LLC. Under the 10-year lease, starting monthly rent is $3,300 with three-percent annual increases.

"We're pretty excited," Peter Chase said when reached for comment.

He said that he and his wife develop restaurants and bars primarily in hotels. In contrast, he described their station venture, which will hold a farm-to-table restaurant, as being more intimate and a "mom-and-pop opportunity for us."

The restaurant is expected to open in late June, he said. First, town employees will be performing electrical work at the site, with the Chases paying $15,000 for the materials to do so.

The Chases will take over the station's concession space, which is geared towards serving commuters coffee, Greenstein told Daily Voice.

"The concession will switch over to the Chases on or about May 1 and they will continue the service uninterrupted while the main waiting room is renovated," Greenstein wrote. "When those renovations are completed, the coffee service will be provided from the main waiting room."

Currently, Carla Gambescia is operating the concession space, Greenstein told Daily Voice.
