CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. ? The Chappaqua Daily Voice is heading into the new year by counting down, in no particular order, the top 10 stories from 2012.
The Chappaqua Turf Committee originally hoped to raise $2 million for the installation of a turf field at Horace Greeley High School, but expanded the scope in February to include bathrooms, athletic facilities, track repairs, an entrance walkway, concession stand renovations, press box renovations and new lights around the school.
The committee began the fundraising campaign in September 2011 and officially kick-started the project in February with a donation of $76,500 to the Chappaqua Central School District.
The check was presented to the district to pay for engineering work for the project.
The nonprofit organization needed to reach $1.2 million in donations by October to have the field ready for spring 2013, said Jim Nottingham, committee member and Greeley Sports Boosters chair. The group raised more than $800,000 from 175 families by July, but did not meets its deadline. The turf is to be installed whenever the group raises the rest of the money.
