CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. ? The Chappaqua Daily Voice is heading into the new year by counting down, in no particular order, the top 10 stories from 2012.

The Chappaqua Central School District welcomed two new principals in 2012. Robert Rhodes was hired to lead Horace Greeley High School, and former Assistant Principal Amy Fishkin was promoted to the top position at Roaring Brook Elementary School.

Rhodes, a former principal at Millenium High School in New York City, took over for Andrew Selesnick , who was principal at Greeley for nine years before being promoted to assistant superintendent for leadership development and human resources.

Rhodes was selected after an intense, nationwide search process that included interview committees and focus groups consisting of parents, teachers, staff and students. Rhodes was selected from 147 candidates who applied for the position after an advertisement was posted in The New York Times on Dec. 11, 2011.

The Greeley and Roaring Brook searches were carried out simultaneously, but the district decided to extend the Roaring Brook search by six weeks.

Fishkin, an assistant principal at the school for five years, was eventually selected as Eric Byrne's successor. Byrne was promoted to assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction before the 2011-12 school year.

Another principal position in the district opened in September, when Michael Kirsch announced his intention to retire in June 2013 after 38 years as principal of Douglas G. Grafflin Elementary School.
