NEW CASTLE, N.Y. - The New Castle Town Board convenes twice monthly for scheduled board meetings in the Assembly Room of Town Hall. Here are some of the top issues and announcements discussed at Tuesday's meeting:
School Taxes Due on Jan. 31
Jan. 31 is the final date to pay the second half of the school taxes without penalty. According to Town Supervisor Susan Carpenter, the tax office will hold post-dated checks for timely deposit.
"If you are concerned you want to make sure you get your check in on time, but you don't want to have it deposited before Jan. 31. Just note the desired deposit date on the check, and the tax office will hold it for you and deposit it on that date so it is not late," said Carpenter.
Christmas Tree Pick-Up
Christmas tree pick-up is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 23.
Bid Opening for Amsterdam Carriage House
With demolition and concrete work finished on the Amsterdam Carriage House in Millwood, the town opened bidding for prospective framing companies on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
"There has been a lot of interest," said Town Administrator Penny Paderewski. Following the framing work on the house, electric work will be carried out by an in-house electrician. Insulation and sheet rock installation will also be performed by the town's maintenance staff.
New Website for New Castle
The Town of New Castle's official governmental site has been re-designed and will go live at the end of February, according to Paderewski. The site is being designed by Lyle Anderson, a website designer and member of the New Castle Community Media Center's board of directors.
"We discussed this at length and he assures me it will be live by the end of February," said Paderewski. "This is a very exciting thing for us."
Zoning Board Chairperson Re-Appointed
The board voted to approve the re-appointment of the Zoning Board of Appeals Chairperson, Ken Cooper, for a 5-year-term ending on Jan. 2, 2017.
