The Town Board voted at its Wednesday meeting to approve issuing a request for proposal (RFP) for firms who could do a feasibility study, according to Supervisor Rob Greenstein.
"It will identify the permits, the easements, cost estimates, etc," Greenstein wrote in an email when referring to the study's purpose. "Then, if we decide to proceed, we'll go out to bid for a developer, architect and engineer."
Whether a developer would be involved is likely but has not been determined yet, according to Greenstein.
The proposal, dubbed the "ChapLine," would begin just south of Chappaqua Crossing, pass by the back of the Horace Greeley High School campus and terminate in downtown. It is based off of an existing path that, according to maps, runs parallel to Metro-North train tracks and a wooded area.
The concept was presented to the Town Board in October by Chappaqua resident Dan Googel. At the time, he suggested that the trail, which would be 1.6 miles, could be created in multiple phases. His early estimates also pegged the project's cost in the range of $850,000 to $1.4 million.
