CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – The Town of New Castle will be testing its new CodeRED emergency notification system on Thursday, Jan. 10 by contacting the entire community.
The town contracted with CodeRED in order to keep residents up-to-date during significant events. The change was largely inspired from the town’s lack of communication during Hurricane Sandy last fall.
“Hurricane Sandy opened our eyes,” said New Castle Town Administrator Penny Paderewski. “The lack of information our residents received from Con Edison was problematic. We want to be ready for a situation like that the next time it happens.”
The CodeRed message that is being delivered next Thursday will direct recipients to the town’s website to add additional contact numbers, while also asking recipients to spread the word by mentioning the system to family, friends and neighbors.
“All individuals and businesses should take the time to visit our website and add contact information to include celluar phones, emails and text addresses,” said Paderewski in a press release. “If your contact information is not in the CodeRED database, you will not receive a call when a message is sent.”
Paderewski specifically suggested businesses and individuals who have new or unlisted phone numbers and those who use a cell phone exclusively should add their contact information. All phone numbers and email addresses will be maintained in a CodeRED private database.
Citizens can log into the Town of New Castle website at www.mynewcastle.org and follow the CodeRED link in the upper left side of the page. Those without internet access may pick up a form at New Castle Town Hall Monday through Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
