NEW CASTLE, N.Y. – New Castle police want residents to be aware of a phone scam from someone who's impersonating a Water Department official.

A resident reported receiving a phone call from someone who threatened to shut off their water unless they were immediately paid.

The Water Department will never call you and threaten to shut off the water, even if an account is past due.

Police say the preferred response is to hang up on the caller.

If you do receive a phone call, contact Lt. Daniel Cannon of the Police Department at 914-238-4422 or dcannon@mynewcastle.org.
