NEW CASTLE, N.Y. New Castle Police are recommending that children do not go trick-or-treating door-to-door Monday night due to downed electrical wires that may be hidden from snow.
Children of any age do not understand the extreme danger any downed wire presents, said Lt. Dan Cannon in a statement. Because of the many downed wires in town, New Castle Police strongly encourage parents not permit children to go door to door in neighborhoods tonight.
As an alternative, town officials invited children to come in costume with a bag for treats to the Community Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for a Halloween Carnival. The event is sponsored by the Chappaqua Central School District and will include candy and games.
