NEW CASTLE, N.Y. – Route 117 and Route 134 re-opened Wednesday and New Castle is hoping the same will happen with the rest of its state roads sometime Thursday, said Lt. Dan Cannon.
“The town Department of Public Works, police department and Con Ed crews are teaming up to open our roads,” Cannon said in a statement. He said crews worked Wednesday night to open Routes 128, 133 and 120.
After all state roads are re-opened, the town will shift its focus to opening county roads and then neighborhoods that are closed off.
“The magnitude of the damage done to our road system is great, but Town agencies teamed up with Con Ed are completely capable of restoring the Town to normalcy,” Cannon said. “The process will take time. Please be patient. We are coming to your road.”
Cannon said that emergency response times will be longer than usual, but if called, they will come.
“Please look after your neighbors and try to help each other during this emergency,” he said. “Progress is being made and it is expected that as out of state mutual aid resources arrive, the pace of restoration of our roadways will accelerate. We will keep you posted with updates.”
