New Castle Draws Attention to Domestic Violence

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – At Tuesday’s Town Board meeting, Councilwoman Elise Kessler Mottel proclaimed October 2011 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in New Castle.

“Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects people of all races, ages, gender and income levels,” said Mottel. “Domestic Violence Awareness Month provides an excellent opportunity for citizens to learn more about preventing domestic violence and to show support for the numerous organizations and individuals who provide critical advocacy services and assistance to victims.”

Specifically recognized by the board was Shine the Light on Domestic Violence’s Westchester coalition. “Their contribution and dedication toward eradicating domestic violence throughout our community has enriched and strengthened the fabric of our community,” said Mottel.

The proclamation came a week after a murder-suicide in Lewisboro, which has drawn the attention of many domestic violence organizations. “It’s particularly meaningful given the events of the last several days,” said Town Supervisor Barbara Gerrard.
