MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. ? A local church is giving Mount Kisco residents an opportunity to help hard-hit storm victims in Staten Island, Breezy Point and the Rockaways.
Members of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mount Kisco are collecting donations for the area surrounding the parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace in New Dorp, Staten Island. The Rev. Bill Damroth of St. Francis of Assisi previously served at the Staten Island parish.
St. Francis is asking for donations of non-perishable foods and beverages, heavy-duty battery-operated flashlights and batteries, contractor-size heavy garbage bags, shovels, mops, rubber gloves, bleach, antibacterial cleaning products, hand sanitizer, air filtering masks, socks and first aid kits, especially kits with peroxide and antiseptics.
In a separate effort, St. Francis parishioner Tim O’Malley is organizing a collection for Breezy Point and the Rockaways via the Aisling Community Center in Yonkers. These areas are in need of diapers, baby wipes, blankets, towels, clothes, non-perishable food, toiletries and water.
Donations for both Staten Island and Breezy Point and the Rockaways can be dropped off at the rear entrance of the St. Francis of Assisi Rectory, Dakin Avenue entrance, on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
If any community members are unable to drop off their donations at those times or would rather donate cash or write a check to go toward these purchases, contact Joann Spolzino at 914-666-7826 or at email@example.com.
The church is also seeking volunteers to drive their cars to Staten Island to deliver the donations, with the goal of getting them there by Thursday afternoon.
