Man Killed in Taconic Crash in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, N.Y. -- A 27-year-old Dobbs Ferry man was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle crashed on the Taconic State Parkway in New Castle.

New York State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra said the accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on the northbound Taconic State Parkway north of the Pines Bridge Road exit. He said the motorcyclist, riding a 2007 Suzuki, changed lanes from the right to the left, striking the rear of a passenger vehicle and skidding off onto the grassy median.

The biker, identified as Joseph Omboni Jr., 27, struck a guard rail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Published reports identify him as a volunteer firefighter with the Livingston Hose Fire Company in Dobbs Ferry.

The driver of the car, described as a man from Yonkers, and his passengers were uninjured. The accident snarled traffic for several hours. Officials were still investigating the crash Sunday evening.
