Lt. Marc Simmons Retires From New Castle Police

NEW CASTLE, N.Y. – Police Lt. Marc Simmons has retired from the New Castle Police Department, it was announced Monday.

"The town of New Castle has been a terrific place to work," Simmons said in a statement released through Town Administrator Penny Paderewski. "The police department has a great tradition, a great bunch of officers today and a great future. I wish them all the best."

Simmons' retirement comes nearly a month after a judge dismissed his lawsuit against Chief Charles Ferry and Barbara Gerrard, former town supervisor.

Simmons filed the lawsuit in June 2011 that said he was punished and given a reduced role within the department following an internal investigation of another officer, who he accused of patrolling while intoxicated.

"Marc Simmons has been a valuable member of the New Castle Police Department since his first day of hire," the town said in a joint statement. "The town and police department are sorry to lose him. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
