NEW CASTLE, N.Y. The League of Women Voters is taking applications from local high school students with an interest in government and politics to attend the 12th annual Students Inside Albany conference.
According to Lea Barth, chairperson of New Castle League of Women Voters, the conference will be held March 25-28 in Albany and is designed to increase students awareness of their responsibility in a representative government.
"This interactive conference will bring together high school students from across the state to learn about New York State government and the process by which citizens can participate in the policy making arena," said Barth in a statement.
As part of the program, students will tour Albany and spend an afternoon shadowing their legislators. One applicant will be selected by the group to join other students, sponsored by more than 50 local League of Women Voters throughout New York State.
The group will provide train fare for the student to travel to Albany. All other costs of attending the conference, including three nights accommodations at the Hampton Inn and Suites in downtown Albany, will be covered by the League of Women Voters of New York.
Applications, which can be found on the League of Women Voters' website , are due by Jan. 7, 2012. Applicants are also encouraged to contact Barth at firstname.lastname@example.org, with any questions.
