Hillary Clinton's Pastor, Westchester Native, Admits To Plagiarizing Book

Bill Shillady, Chappaqua resident Hillary Clinton's pastor who recently published a book of devotionals that he sent to her during the presidential campaign, has admitted the book was plagiarized.

"Strong For A Moment Like This," will be removed from all sales outlets with all copies set to be destroyed. Shillady, who works in Manhattan, previously preached in Mamaroneck and Yonkers.

Trouble began when it was discovered a devotional sent to Clinton the morning after the election was plagiarized from a blog post from a pastor in Indiana. His publisher, Abingdon Press subsequently initiated a review of the book and found further instances of plagiarism.

"Abingdon Press has zero tolerance for plagiarism," Rev. Brian K. Milford, president, and publisher of United Methodist Publishing House said. "We are contacting all writers and contributors involved; we deeply appreciate their time and understanding, as well as the cooperation of our valued trade partners."

In a statement, Shillady said he deeply regretted his actions.

"There is no excuse for it," Shillady said. "I apologize to those whose work I mistakenly did not attribute. I apologize to those I have disappointed, including Secretary Hillary Clinton, Abingdon Press, and all the writers and others who have helped me publish and promote this book. I ask for everyone’s forgiveness.”

Shillady first met Clinton at a 9/11 remembrance service when she was a senator. They chatted backstage and Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, began attending Shillady's Methodist church on the Upper West Side. Shillady was the Methodist official at Chelsea's wedding.

Shillady made some waves when he said Clinton was interested in preaching at Methodist churches.

Shillady hosted a book signing at Scattered Books in Chappaqua and was set to give a talk with Clinton on Thursday.
