Greenstein, who decided on Wednesday morning to step down, described his presence as apparently being a “distraction.” He is also fine with resigning because of where the process is now.
Discussing why he stayed on the committee, Greenstein had an assumption that the supervisor has a spot – his predecessor, Susan Carpenter, was on it – but found out that was not the case. He also talked about unsuccessful attempts to get a replacement for his spot, including from fellow town board members and people who are not part of the board. He also now feels that it's probably best to not have a town board member on the committee.
The supervisor has faced some concern about his relationship with the committee. At Tuesday's town board work session (via the meeting's NCCMC video), a woman in the audience brought up his two roles but comparing them to multiple hats. In the video, discussion of the master plan update process starts at around 59 minutes, while Greenstein's presence on the steering committee is first mentioned at about the 1-hour, 10-minute mark.
The steering committee's members include Planning Board Chairman Robert Kirkwood, Planning Board member Richard Brownell and Millwood Board of Fire Commissioners Chair Hala Makowska.
Although he is no longer on the committee, Greenstein wants to be involved in getting the message out.
The update process includes public outreach, with four meetings scheduled. The meetings are on May 7 at 7 p.m. at Robert E. Bell Middle School; May 10 at 9 a.m. at Horace Greeley High School; May 15 at 7 p.m. at Westorchard Elementary School; May 21 at 7 p.m. at Seven Bridges Middle School.
