CHAPPAQUA -- No one could reach downtown Chappaqua, right after the storm. Flooding made the roads impassible.Trees and power lines were down, too.
"There's two or three inches of water streaming down Route 120," says Chappaqua resident Gary Murphy, who took these photos. The driveways of some private residence have turned into ponds, marooning the owners.
Murphy was trying to reach his business office, Maid Brigade, in Valhalla in the early afternoon, and couldn't find a way through. Later, he tried again and found less water on the main roads. "The flat areas in Chappaqua and Pleasantville are fine," he says, "but the low-lying areas haven't drained."
Murphy is trying to decide whether to open his cleaning business tomorrow. "Right now, I'm leaning against it," he said. "Even if the employees could get in, and the customers' roads were clear, it might be unsafe for drivers to be on the road. I don't think the risk is worth it."
