EZ Sports is one of a kind in Chappaqua

In tony Chappaqua there are no Sports Authority’s or Dick’s Sporting Goods, not even Modell’s. There is only Peter Zimmerman’s sports store on South Greeley Avenue, which has been Chappaqua answer to the big boys for twenty years.

“We try to sell equipment and apparel for youth sports from 1st to 12th grade,” Zimmerman said.

After graduating from Syracuse with a degree in business, Zimmermann worked at Herman’s World of Sporting Goods in Syracuse and in New York City for two years. Then, Zimmerman sold sporting goods to teams and leagues as a wholesaler, before opening his first retail store in Hawthorne, where he operated for 10 years.

Twenty years ago, Zimmerman settled back in his native Chappaqua when his present digs opened up.

“It had been a liquor store for almost 40 years and I approached the landlord one day and he said it was available,” Zimmerman said.

At his store, he does retail and wholesale business, as well as selling team uniforms, jackets and t-shirts. He began 30 years ago designing school uniforms and he is the sole provider of apparel for Chappaqua's Horace Greeley High School.

Zimmerman is also the vice president of coaching and equipment for the New Castle youth football league in town.  He provides all the pads and equipment for the league.

“A lot of the kids get involved in football because there are no cuts, so there’s not as much pressure,” Zimmerman said. “With all the pressure out there to make some teams, a lot of kids start specializing in one sport or another.”

At EZ Sports they can get anything they need for any sport they play.
