The lifelong Cortlandter is running for Town Board on the Democratic ticket looking to fill one of two seats now held by Ann Lindau and John Sloan who are retiring.

"I feel strongly that I can make a difference and be an effective advocate," Carter-Costello said. "I can make a meaningful contribution. We are still in a tough economy. We have to continue the progress we have made and I would be honored to help with that.

Carter-Costello said she wants to help veterans and senior citizens, improve infrastructure and manage budgets. But it's the people of Cortlandt that she loves the most.

"We have the best residents here in the Town of Cortlandt," Carter-Costello said. For the past several years I’ve chaired the Stay Awake a Thon, which is a community event to raise money for cancer related causes. Thanks to the generosity of our residents, we’ve been able to raise over $300,000."

Carter-Costello, who is a third generation Cortlandt resident, also praised groups like the Lion's Club and PTA for making Cortlandt great.

"We have so many hard working wonderful families that live and work here. At the same time, we also have diversity. This combination creates the fabric of our community that is so strong," Carter-Costello said.

Carter-Costello said the Paradise Restaurant in Verplanck is a family tradition and she also enjoys going to Julianna's in Cortlandt Manor. She also said she enjoys going to Umami for mahi mahi.

"Cortlandt means family and friends. It’s home. It’s a place filled with good and generous people who will have your back and help you if you need it," Carter-Costello said.  "Cortlandt is filled with hardworking men and women, families who are involved with their schools, and community that is supportive of our local business."

Carter-Costello is running with Seth Freach against John Lentini and Theresa Knockerbocker.
