In a political landscape where right and left seem more divided than ever, Kaplowitz still strives to find middle ground.
Kaplowitz, who has represented Yorktown, New Castle and his hometown of Somers since 1998, has long had a reputation for reaching across the aisle.
In 2013, he played a critical role in the passage of the county budget. After being elected chairman of the board of legislators Kaplowitz delivered on a promise to make sure all 17 members of the board had leadership positions in at least one committee in the hopes it would foster bi-partisan efforts.
"The vast majority of people and opinions tend to be in the center, that's just statistically the way things work out," Kaplowitz told Daily Voice. "The moderate center, if you will. So I constantly play to that moderate center."
With plenty of divisive political issues on the horizon, Kaplowitz hopes to keep Westchester moving forward by finding that elusive middle.
Kaplowitz also discussed:
- What residents can expect from Rye Playland this year.
- The impact of PepsiCo leaving Somers.
- Why he got into public service and politics.
- Transportation issues in Westchester County.
- The possibility of running for higher office.
