The Cortlandt woman's life of service will be honored on Dec. 6 when she is inducted into the Westchester Senior Hall of Fame at the Marriott in Tarrytown.

Sadofsky was honored for her work with the Rotary Club and Inner Wheel, a club initially founded for wives and daughters of Rotarians.

"It's a great honor," Sadofsky said. "I was very honored by their decision. I was very surprised when I found out."

Sadofsky has been volunteering since attending Manhattanville College in Purchase and joined Inner Wheel when her husband was a Rotarian in 1990. She also was involved in a charity that provides prosthetic hands to children born without them.

"I was a teacher, so anything to do with children concerns me," Sadofsky said.

Sadofsky also worked with the Cortlandt Republican Committee and was president of her Hadassah chapter three times. She is also a former president of the PTA in Lakleland where she was a teacher. Sadofsky also spent time in Peekskill.

"I was always involved in helping others, I was brought up that way," Sadofsky said. "My husband was very encouraging. He was always getting involved."

Sadofsky's charity work increased after she retired and she encouraged other retirees to get involved.

"I have a lot of time on my hand," Sadofsky said. "If you don't have time, you just make time. God forbid you go out and help people."

Being involved in so many organizations has allowed Sadofsy to make friends all over the world.

"I have a good friend in Italy and a friend in France," Sadofsky said. "Friendship is one of our goals. Friendship, service and international understanding."

For anyone who wants to get involved, Sadofsky says they just have to reach out.

"There's always an organization that could use your help," Sadofsky said. "Some people can sit back and not do anything. That's just not me."
