Chappaqua Turf Committee Sets May Goal

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - The Chappaqua Turf Committee (TCTC) President Jim Nottingham said the group is hoping to raise the $2 million necessary to bring a turf field to Horace Greeley High School by May 1.

If Nottingham and the group are able to reach their donation goal, construction will begin on installing the field by fall 2012. TCTC recently began its larger push for donations after months of planning and raising awareness.

"We have six to seven weeks to complete our fundraising activities if we are to meet our timeline to have construction of the lighted turf field begin during the summer and completed during the fall of this year," Nottingham said.

Instead of fundraisers, TCTC will be soliciting larger individual contributions between $50,000 and $100,000. The group has also begun selling bricks for a walkway that will run from the parking lot to the field.

In an email sent out Wednesday, Nottingham said bricks can be purchased for $125, $250, $500, $1,000 or $2,500. The bricks will vary in size based on the size of the contribution.

A "recognition wall" with bronze plaques featuring engravings for larger donors will also be constructed next to the brick path. Donors contributing $5,000 will receive 1/4 inch lettering, $10,000 for 1/2 inch lettering, $25,000 for 3/4 inch lettering and $50,000 for 1 inch lettering.

TCTC recently made its first official donation to the Chappaqua Central School District. A $76,500 check was presented to the district as a means of paying for engineering work that was carried out for the committee's recently proposed projects

While the initial goal is set at $2 million for the installation of the turf field, TCTC is hoping to raise an additional $1 million for new bathrooms, athletic facility renovations, track repairs, concession stand renovations, press box renovations and new lights around the school.
