“It’s my hope that this year’s Valentines for Vets program can help spread a feeling of appreciation to veterans, seniors and their families throughout our community,” said Assemblyman Buchwald. “Sometimes, it’s the small gestures that really make a difference in letting someone know just how appreciated they are. I want to thank the thousands of students in my Assembly District, along with their teachers and administrators, who expressed their unwavering appreciation for the sacrifice and service of our community’s heroes this Valentine’s Day.”

At an event on Wednesday, Feb. 12, Buchwald joined students from Parsons Memorial Elementary School to deliver Valentine’s Day cards to the veterans at the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in Harrison. The students who organized the effort at Parsons are members of the school’s Green Key Club, a community service organization.

“I’m thrilled that our students had the opportunity to not only use their creativity and compassion in making Valentine’s Day cards for veterans, but they were able to personally engage with heroes in our community,” said Christine Gallagher, teacher at Parsons Memorial Elementary School in Harrison. “This is an experience these kids won’t soon forget, and I thank Assemblyman Buchwald for facilitating it.”

In addition, Buchwald delivered the students’ Valentine’s Day cards to veterans at the Mount Kisco American Legion, the Downtown Harrison Senior Center, the Mount Kisco Senior Center, and the North Castle Community Center in North White Plains.

“It’s not every day we have the pleasure to welcome bright, energetic students at the American Legion and VFW, and we’re so very thankful for their sweet words and their acknowledgement of service and sacrifice,” said Joseph Mazzullo, commander of the Harrison American Legion. “Thanks to the efforts of Assemblyman Buchwald, the schools and the students who participated, many veterans have had a heart-warming Valentine’s Day.”
