CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Town Supervisor Barbara Gerard made an announcement at Tuesday night's town board meeting to remind the public that the first half of school taxes are due by this Friday.
"The tax office would like to remind taxpayers that the first half of school tax payments will be due by Rosh Hashanah," Gerard said. "For everyone's convenience that tax office will be open that day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The tax office would also like to ask everyone to please not wait until the last minute to do so."
The tax office will only be accepting cash during normal business hours of 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and all payments must be in the exact amount. Payments can also be made using the online system found at www.newcastle.org .
Gerard also reminded the public that the tax office also accepts United States Postal Office post marks as proof of on-time payment, but to make sure you see the post office postmark your tax payment, otherwise it will be counted as late. Residents can also make tax payments with postdated checks, allowing them to make their payment early and allowing the check to be held until the tax due date.
