CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. Students in Chappaqua may have been enjoying the days off caused by Saturday's snowstorm, but for many of their parents, not being able to work was simply an inconvenience.
I had a ton of things to do so I mostly spent my Halloween driving around looking for Internet, said Kristen Leonetti. My phone died pretty early into the storm so I couldn't even get emails."
Even without power, it still meant business as usual for thousands of New Castle residents. Whether it was finding a Wi-Fi spot in town or getting work done on a smartphone, many residents did not want to fall behind.
One of the most popular spots for residents seeking refuge was the Chappaqua Library, which opened back up on Monday after closing on Sunday. The library had both power and wireless Internet.
According to Library Director Pamela Thornton, there are typically between 500 to 600 people in the library every day, but since Monday there has been between 800 and 900.
"People have been all over the place and theyre all keeping warm and using the power," said Thornton. "Especially with the schools out, all the kids are here."
The main area of the library has been so filled with people, that the library also opened up the theater for families to use. Not seeing it as an inconvenience, the library is welcoming those looking to get work done, or to just sit in a place with heat.
Weve been serving coffee and cookies and tea and stuff like that, said Thornton. All the families are here because they have to keep warm.
The library, Starbucks and Tazza Café are among the places in New Castle where residents can go to get work done.
