CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - With Election Day only weeks away, residents have seen political signs pop up on lawns throughout New Castle in support of a number of candidates. The town recently sent out a reminder that signs of any kind are prohibited in the towns right-of-way and some residents have complained about them appearing on public property.
A couple years back I had the pleasure of removing and discarding one from the entrance to my community's nature arboretum, said Kevan Full on The Daily Chappaquas Facebook Page. There's a time and place but that isn't one.
According to the New Castle Town Code, no political advertising can be placed on the property of someone without their permission. Any signs placed in an area of property that is owned and maintained by the Town will be removed.
Some put them in areas that were within the easement, said Town Board candidate Rich Diefenbach, about signs that have been taken down. So they dont know. They dont know that some of these signs are going up in an area that they can be removed in.
The street right-of-way width for New Castle is defined as the distance between property lines measured at right angles to the center line of the street. Specific questions should be directed to Town Hall at (914) 238-4723.
