Chappaqua Potters Make Bowls to Fight Hunger

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Potters at the New Castle Art Center in Chappaqua will be donating their skills to charity on March 12 for an Empty Bowls event designed to raise awareness and funds for local organizations working to alleviate hunger.

According to organizer Penny Vane, the soup dinner event will be held at the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua. Bowls will be sold to attendees for $25 with 100 percent of the proceeds being directly donated to local food pantries.

"They will choose from one of the handmade bowls created by local potters, then fill it with their choice of soups donated by local restaurants and caterers," said Vane.

The recipients of the donations will be the Mt. Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry and the Interfaith Food Pantry in Pleasantville. A variety of soups will be provided by Gail Patrick's Café, Le Jardin du Roi, Crabtree's Kittle House, Taylored Menus and Via Vanti.

The dinner will be accompanied by performances from local musicians. Those wishing to attend must register in advance so enough bowls can be made.
