After learning that the Ossining Children's Center did not have a robotics program, the teams, part of the First LEGO League, held two fundraisers. The teams sold glow-wear for trick-or-treaters on Halloween night, as well as LEGO mini-packs, purchased in part with a donation of LEGOstore points by Sam Kaplan, 14, of the Astromechs. The remaining LEGO kits were raffled off at a local First LEGO League pizza party.
After the fundraisers, Logan Taveira, 14, of the Astromechs and Quinn Taveira, 10, of the Brick Bosses, paid a visit to the center on Veteran's Day to bring the collected funds. The teams were able to raise enough money for the center to hold a two-hour robotics learning experience, led by Frank Cortalano of Computer Adventures and Bits, Bytes and Bots of Westchester, who brought laptops and robotics kits to the center for the two-hour event.
