Chappaqua Fire Department's 43rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt Draws Large Crowd

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- About 600 people attended the Chappaqua Fire Department's annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, Fire Chief Russell Maitland said.

More than 4,000 eggs were used for event, the chief noted.

Maitland said he believes that all of the eggs, which are plastic, have been returned and that there aren't any known to have been left behind previously.

“We go up each year and we don't find any eggs from the previous year.”

The Easter egg hunt, in its 43rd year, was held at Chappaqua Crossing on Sunday afternoon. Kids and adults searched through woods on the top of a hill in the campus. People used sticks during the hunt to help find the eggs.

The event was for three age groups, Maitland said. The groups were 1-4 year olds, 5-8 year olds and 9-11 year olds.

Comparing this year's turnout to previous years, Maitland called it "on par."
