CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. Two service groups in Chappaqua are looking to add to their teams of volunteers. Both the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Chappaqua Volunteer Fire Department will have open houses in April aimed at recruiting.
Fire Chief Russell Maitland said the Fire Department will open the doors to its King Street firehouse for interested adults from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 21 and 22. The recruitment drive is being held as part of a statewide program with the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs.
"It's for a recruitment drive to bring in volunteer firefighters," Maitland said. "We want people who may be interested to stop by the firehouse and, you know, learn a little bit more of what it's all about."
The ambulance corps will have an open house the same weekend, targeting younger volunteers. The open house will be at the North Greeley Avenue corps headquarters on April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students interested in attending must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and be 16 years old by fall 2012.
